Rain or shine, the San Juan Capistrano Fiesta Association present to the people of San Juan Capistrano and surrounding communities the annual Swallows Day Parade. The fame of this event and the yearly return of the Swallows have reached all parts of the world.
The 52nd presentation of the Swallows Day Parade and Mercado will be on Saturday, March 20, 2010. The Swallows Day Parade is part of the larger Fiesta de las Golondrinas or Festival of the Swallows. During this three-month Fiesta de las Golondrinas, the Fiesta Association is responsible for various fund raising and community activities. Some of the activities and events include: the New Membership Mixer, the Taste of San Juan, the Kids Pet Parade, the Presidenta Ball, the Fiesta Grande which includes the Hairiest Man & Soiled Dove Contests, and the infamous HooseGow Day round-up. All culminating with the Swallows Day Parade and Mercado.
The Fiesta de la Golondrinas celebrates the legend of the return of the swallows to the San Juan Capistrano Mission on St. Josephs, March 19th. This event is the reason behind all the festivities.
The Parade takes place in down-town San Juan Capistrano. The Swallows Day Parade is the nations largest non-motorized parade. It is completly organized and presented by the San Juan Capistrano Fiesta Association. Arrive early; most street closures are in effect by 10.00 a.m. The parade begins promptly at 11 am.
