Description:
Bowers Kidseum, both an interactive childrens museum and learning center, serves as an extension of the main museum, offering multi-faceted art and cultural experiences for young children, their families and the community. Primarily dedicated to the pre-school and early elementary age, Kidseums central focus is providing a ‘hands-on experience in keeping with the museums mission to ‘promote education and understanding by bringing the worlds great cultural art to people of all ages.

Pre-School Discoveries
Meeting every Friday from 10:30AM to 12PM, this program, taught by the incomparable Miss Bev and Miss Jackie, is for children ages 3-6 and their respective parents/grandparents/caretakers. Art activities, music and movement, storytelling adventures and healthy snacks make it a fun, enriching morning.
Activity Tours
One-hour activity tours for grades K-2 are provided by trained teachers and meet Visual Art content academic standards. Designed to engage students through a hands-on approach, the activities include stories, games, songs, musical instruments and costumes connected to the exhibits at the museum.
Cultural Art Classes
Designed for grades 3 and above, the wide variety of classes at the Kidseum Art Lab provides students an opportunity to create a souvenir art piece related to their museum field trip. All cultural art classes meet Visual Art academic standards. These one-hour classes are taught by professional art instructors and range from Sand Painting and Cattle Brands to a Mummy in a Sarcophagus and a Chinese Watercolor Scroll Painting.
Cultural Art Trunks
Kidseum Cultural Art Trunks, rented out for a small weekly fee, are designed to create a mini-gallery in the classroom. The trunks include materials related to their theme, such as hands-on art objects, lesson plans, videos, and books.
drop-in family art inventions
Eery weekend, families can create innovative and unique cultural art projects together in the Kidseums Art Lab. Each weekend features new techniques and materials for families to use.
TARGET FREE FIRST SUNDAYS
Target sponsors free admission to both the Bowers Museum and Kidseum the first Sunday of every month. Families can also participate in free cultural festivals, sponsored by The Nicholas Endowment, on the same day.
Second friday story time
The second Friday of every month, in cooperation with Barnes & Noble, Kidseum welcomes a favorite childrens book character for children and their families to meet. Past storybook characters have included Cat in the Hat, Curious George, and Biscuit the Dog. Children create their own souvenir art project to take home.
Hours of Operation:
Kidseum is open Friday through Sunday from 10AM to 4PM. It is closed Monday through Thursday, except for school tours, art classes and preschool discoveries groups. Preschool Discoveries is open to the public on Fridays from 10:30AM to noon.
